People often ask me, "What is the purpose of marketing?" The best answer I ever heard came from the Marketing Director of Microsoft: "To make the sales force redundant."

What is the purpose of marketing?

Marketing is a way of selling. Selling a product, a concept, a service or even a city. Marketing combines whatever elements are required to achieve sales: brand development, graphic design; web-site design, public relations and editorial writing; exhibition, packaging design, advertising and event management.
